This circuit diagram shows how the smaller dc-dc module components are connected. These components can accept a maximum of 5.5 V at their inputs however; the transformer of the TC-152SD provides six volts, which loads down to around 5.5 V when all the components are connected. The A0512SE dc-dc module provides +12 V, 0 V, and -12 V rails, however if you ignore the 0 V pin which is the centre tapping of the internal coil, then the potential between the +12 V and -12 V is 24 V. The zero volt pin is therefore not used.

The 9 V power supply is for the built-in mono speaker amplifier. I was getting a slight hum when the volume was at zero level, so I decided to use a 4.7 µH coil and 1000 µF capacitors to remove the noise. The replacement 1-watt modules had a higher power rating than the original dc-dc module, and the advantage was a noticeable improvement in the sound quality at high volumes.

Modification

Modification

A slight modification was required on the main PCB. The 9 V DC passes through another 470 µH coil which is on the main board, and this coil and capacitor form a filter network. I replaced the 33 µF capacitor with a higher value, which helped eliminate ripple and noise.

Circuit Build

Circuit Build

I decided to use a standard prototyping board for the circuit built. The first step was to install the terminal pins in their correct locations, so that the whole board would fit in place of the original dc-dc module. For the terminal pins, I simple used thick copper wire, so that it could be bent easily if required. There are many ways to build the circuit on prototyping board, and because this is an easy build, I will leave it to the "engineer" to figure out where to place the components. Chances are that your dc-dc modules might be different size and type. However, this article provides the main principle on how to make a start.
