Directly Coupled Transistor Radio PW-Feb-1961

Radio Project

Here is a 4 transistor directly-coupled radio circuit. As you can see, there are no inter-stage decoupling capacitors, which help to reduce the component count. Amazingly, circuits such as these can operate from as little as 1.5 V. When I first saw this circuit, it occurred to me that a modern version of this could be made using readily available Darlington transistors, and that is how my three transistor Whippersnapper projects began.
