Lennon '69: Search for Liberation
Lennon '69: Search for Liberation is a 56-page book that documents the conversations between John Lennon and the late A. C. Bhaktivedanta, founder of ISKCON. The book also documents dialogue with Yoko Ono, George Harrison, and Mike Robinson. The conversations took place in September 1969 when he was a houseguest of John Lennon at Tittenhurst Park. John Lennon asks some very important basic questions regarding life and death, and A. C. Bhaktivedanta answers them using concepts taken from the Bhagavad Gita.
A. C. Bhaktivedanta’s translation of the Bhagavad Gita as it is, is today the foremost authoritative work followed throughout the world. He was a unique individual who understood Sanskrit to a high level necessary for proper and accurate translation to English. His translation is exactly as it is, and he does not add any personal ideas nor take anything away from the original ancient text. All the ideas and concepts are precisely as they are in the original text. It is therefore the most accurate translation and therefore respected throughout the world. His work has been immensely useful to everybody who does not understand the ancient Sanskrit language.
The Bhagavad Gita is the mainstream religious book of the Hindus, and this is the oldest religion that goes back thousands of years before the birth of Christ. In the West, it is still very much alien, due to language barriers, and the complex ideas it contains, however it is gaining momentum with many English and American people who want real answers. If you are new and looking to enquire into Hinduism, then this book is perfect because John Lennon asks all the basic questions that everyone usually asks.
Back in the late 60s gurus were dime a dozen, and it was a haphazard task of finding someone honest. With this book, you can follow the same path as John Lennon in his quest to find a genuine teacher, to answer his deepest of questions. Of course, with hindsight, today we know that the genuine teacher was A. C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, and he has done all the hard work of translating Sanskrit for you. More importantly, today you no longer have to go around looking for a guru, because almost every country has an ISKCON organisation with followers that will set you on the right path. So if you want to have some nice food, and hear some good tunes, then make an effort to visit them. It will be the best time you ever invested.
