The AV-7 was an audio/video receiver manufactured by the Nakamichi Corporation in the early 1990s. It was a home theatre receiver with 5.1-channel inputs and Dolby Pro Logic decoder. It had 100 watts per channel power output in stereo mode, or 80-watts per channel in surround mode consisting five (8-ohms) speakers. The full specifications are in the following pages of this article.
Review
The AV-7 was one in a series of audio/video receiver amplifiers consisting of AV-8, and AV-10, which had similar external build and electronic engineering. They all had the Nakamichi Harmonic Time Alignment (HTA) feature, but differed with surround sound options, and power output capability. The AV-7 was the most basic of the three receivers, however, today still valuable due to it having the HTA feature in the power amplifier section.
Having repaired and tested AV-8 and AV-10 amplifiers, I can say with some confidence that the HTA feature does set these amplifiers apart from the rest, and the sound quality is remarkable.
Cost/eBay
These amplifiers are highly sought after by serious audio aficionados and enthusiasts who are working towards building a Nakamichi stack system and may already have a tape deck or another component. They are occasionaly for sale and the price can vary from as little as a hundred pounds to nearing thousand pounds depending upon condition.
