The WD2500YS is a server class SATA hard disk drive manufactured by the Western Digital Corporation in approximately 2007. It is part of their Enterprise range of drives engineered for high reliability and RAID applications. These drives have an MTBF rating of 1 million hours tested in a high duty cycle RAID system, and a 5 year limited warranty.
Review
I remember buying these for our servers when I was an IT Manager, and was impressed with their performance because I have never seen one fail. Interestingly, these drives have jumper settings to select SATA 150 MB/s only operation, and Spread Spectrum Clocking (SSC).
eBay / Cost
IT Administrators usually replace these drives after a five-year period when the limited warranty passes. They are sometimes for sale on eBay for around five pounds as refurbished working drives. If you are buying a second-hand drive, then check its SMART parameters to find the Power-On value. Ideally, you want one that has not had much use.
