Elie Wiesel: The Elie Principle
"Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.
Sometimes we must interfere.
When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant.
Wherever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must at that moment become the centre of the universe."
I am a huge fan of Elie Wiesel's work. I must have read almost every book he published, so I figured why not design a blog website of the one most important thing I like about his work. This is from his Nobel Acceptance Speech.
I like this idea a lot, because it eliminates the need for having to wait for God to do something, when we can do something ourselves.
I like the idea of people of light charged with the duty to protect all life, anywhere around the world, that no national borders, politics, or weapons could stop.
Perhaps part of the answer is that we are people of light who will ultimately become the light, therefore it is up to us to uphold and protect the value of all life.
