Kya Hua Tera Wada English Translation

Kya hua tera wada, translates to English as, what happened to your promise? It was a Hindi song from the 1977 film Hum Kisise Kum Naheen. The lyrics are about a man asking his estranged sweetheart, what happened to your promise and the meaning of the oath when you said you will never forget me until the end of your life... In the lyrics, he reminds her of the promises she made, the things she said, and the things they did. He asks her how she could forget it all, for wealth. He reminds her that he endured sorrow, whilst she took the easy way out and compromised her integrity for wealth. She then turns it round on him and says that he was deceitful, when all along; she was in error.

The lyrics highlight a classic human failing, where people make fake promises when they need something from you, and then let you down when they do not need you. Money and power has a corrupting influence on the human soul, and it often brings out greed and selfishness, causing them to conveniently forget any promises made.

Woh jisne gham liya, approximates to, the one who took sorrow. It does not translate well as nobody ever takes sorrow, and what he means in this context is the one who endured the sorrow, which brings more meaning to the translation. If you use the proper meaning of the words, then the conversion to English almost writes itself, and if you read the lines in English only, it flows rather well and makes sense.

English Translation

Kya hua tera wada?

What happened to your promise?

voh kasam, voh iraadah...

That oath,(and) its meaning...

When you said...

Bhoolega dil, jis din tumhe,

The day my heart forgets you,

voh din zindagi ka aakhiry din hoga.

will be the last day of my life.

Yaad hai mujhko, tu ne kaha tha

I remember, you said that

tujhse nahin roothengey kabhi.

you would never be upset with me.

Dil ki tarah se, haat mile hai,

Just like our hearts met, our hands are joined,

kaise bhala chhutege kabhi.

how can they ever truly be separated?

Teri baaho mein, beeti har shaam,

In your arms... spending every evening...,

bewafa, yeh bhi kya, yaad nahin.

unfaithful one, what that too? You do not remember?

Woh kehne wale, mujhko fareybi,

And then you say to everyone that I am deceitful,

kaun fareybi hai yeh bata,

show me who is the deceitful one now,

Woh jis ne gham liya, pyar ke khatir,

The one who endured sorrow, for the sake of love,

kya jisne pyar ko bench diya.

or, the one who sold away their love.

Nasha daulat ka, aisa bhi kya.

What kind of intoxication of wealth is this?

Ke tujhe kuch bhi yaad nahi...

That you do not remember anything...
