Tere Pyar Ki Tamanna English Translation

Tere Pyar Ki Tamanna, translates to English as, my wish for your love... It was a 1985 Hindi song from the film Twaif, and sung by Mahendra kapoor. The music composer was Ravi Shankar, and the lyrics were by Hasan Kamal. Rishi Kapoor was the actor in the movie. Tamanna approximates to a wish or longing within a heart.

At first he sounds as if he is saying sadness (gamm) remains with him like a shadow (saaye), however he also describes it as life’s shadow. He describes the darkness being so strong that it can even extinguish a flame (chiragh), which represents his hopes. Faza approximates to lamentation or a type of sorrow, which is not in his control (bus).

Hope is something we all live with because nobody yet knows how to destroy it. Sometimes we hope that the people who did wrong to us will set things right again, however they never do. Perhaps it is better to fix things yourself -- if it is within your control -- and keep moving forward.

English Translation

Tere pyar ki tamanna,

My wish for your love,

gamm hai zindagi ke saaye.

is a sorrow that remains with me throughout my life like a shadow.

Badi tezz aandhiya hain,

This darkness is very strong,

ye chiragh bujh na jaye.

yet this flame still does not extinguish.

Ay ajeeb dastaa kuch,

What a very strange story this is,

ye hamari dastaa bhi.

it is also my story too.

Kabhi tum samaj na paaye,

Sometimes you are unable to understand,

kabhi hum sunaa na paaye.

sometimes I am unable to hear.

Na fazza hain apne bas mein,

This sorrow is not within my control,

na najjar mein hain kinara.

and there is no sight of a shore.

kahi mere dil ki kashti,

I hope my hearts boat,

na bhawar me doob jaye.

does not drown in the vortex.

Bhawar gives the impression of a whirling abyss within the deep sea.
