Garrard Music Centres
A music centre was an all in one entertainment system that usually consisted of a record player, tuner, and cassette recorder. The complete system came with a pair of loudspeakers, and the main unit usually had a perspex dust cover that kept the dust off all the controls. It was an alternative option for those who did not like stacking systems, and in recent years it is getting popular due to their space saving design. The Garrard ones were legendary as they had the highly sought after belt-drive record players with s-shaped tonearms. There is not much information about this particular range, however if you had one of these units in good working order with the original speakers, then you could make a fortune on a good auction day. At the time of introduction, you could have bought these from the Comet store and they would have been very expensive. For example, the GA150 would have cost approximately £209.90, whilst GA155 was £279.90 and GA200 £329.90. Hence, if you can snag one of these on eBay for as little as fifty pounds, then you are getting a lovely bit of electronic engineering at a bargain price.
