The TDA7057 is a wonderful stereo amplifier IC manufactured by the Philips Corporation. It has maximum output of 8-watts per channel, with each channel having a bridge-tied load (BTL) configuration. With 12 V power supply and 8 Ω speaker load one can expect a typical output of 5.3-watts per channel. It has internal short-circuit protection and thermal shut-down circuitry. Due to the low external component requirement, these ICs became popular and have been used for many years in television sets. Their low-cost and ready availability at auction sites makes them very popular with electronics hobbyists.
The TA8201 is a mono audio power amplifier IC manufactured by the Toshiba Corporation. It has BTL output, and is capable of delivering 17-watts into a 4 Ω load when the power supply is 14.4 V.
