The Sinclair Spectrum transformer is extremely heavy due to the conventional iron-core transformer that is inside. Please note, if you are not a qualified or experienced electrical engineer, do not open one of these, as there are mains voltages inside. These images are just to show what one of these look like from the inside.

There is a small PCB with a full-wave bridge rectifier circuit and smoothing capacitor.

There is no fuse inside this transformer. Usually transformers have a poly fuse close to the core windings. If the adapter overheated, this fuse would cut the power until it cooled down again.
