Sony MDR-XB20EX Packaging

Currently the MDR-XB20EX and the MDR-VB40EX are no longer in production, however technology being what it is, every year they introduce a better product at half the price, and the replacement versions for these are the MDREX310LPB with noise isolation ear buds. Nearly all of the MDR EX and XB range reproduce excellent bass.

Fakes

If you are going to buy these earphones from places such as eBay, then you should be aware that there are many sellers of counterfeit and fake Sony MDR-XB20EX earphones. It is getting extremely difficult to tell the difference between a genuine, and a fake pair, therefore, these photographs of the packaging may help to distinguish.

Things like earphones should always be brand new and sealed from a reputable seller. I was originally going to get mine from my local Sony Centre but there was a spotty-faced teenager who handed me an already opened box and I was not happy with an opened box, so I tossed it back to him and decided to get them online instead.

The earphone that I have disassembled here came from eBay though, and they came with a generous helping of earwax free-of-charge. These earphones insert into the ear canal, and it is not hygienic to use a second-hand pair. Faulty earphones often sell on eBay, with the description that one side is not working. The seller will often state that the wire may be making a poor connection and it might be easily repairable...

It is always a good idea to compare the layout, numbers and colouring of the packaging as a basic precaution. If you fall victim to fake earphones when buying on eBay then you should contact eBay immediately as they will be able to help and refund your money.
