I recently bought these headphones on the auction site, as I was interested in the ear pads, which are the same shape and size as the ones I need for my Sony headphones. I figured even if the headphones do not sound nice, I could at least use the ear pads for my headphones, as the genuine Sony ones are expensive to replace. The ear pads are quite nice, with plenty of padding, and detailed manufacturing, however the old adage that you get what you pay for goes here and I did not expect much for £2.99 including postage, but was hopeful.

The sound quality is quite good in comparison to a cheap basic pair you would buy at a thrift store. Usually those cheap ones have a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz; however in comparison, these headphones with 40 mm drivers produce greater bass, which makes them sound like an expensive pair. Unfortunately, the high end of the frequency is still average and sounded much like a pair rated at 20 kHz. In terms of value for money, you could do worse because I have seen expensive branded ones that cost ten times more that will give the same bass response, and very slightly better than average treble, therefore I can see why people flock to buy these online. There were some quality issues with the locking hinge, however for the most part the design was adequate. The 1-m cord with Y termination is nice and thick and the jack plug is robust. The colourful designs are very attractive for the younger generation. Due to the cheap price and average quality, these headphones will likely have a one to two-year service life.

These basic unbranded pair cost less than three pounds and came all the way from China in a plastic bag. As well as different colours to choose from, there is also an option to buy ones with an inline microphone for use with a Smartphone. There is no manual or any paper, which is just as well because it saves resources and minimizes plastic use. The same pair can also cost as much as ten pounds or more, and those ones have branding such as -- DJ -- written on them or a set of stars printed on the ear cups.
