Gioteck HC2

The HC2 (HC2UNI) is a wired stereo gaming headset manufactured by the GIOTECK Corporation in China. It is compatible for use with PS4 (PlayStation 4), XBOX One, PC, and mobile phones. In this design, the drivers are 40 mm diameter and the coil 30-Ω (approx). The newer version that came after this model is the HC2+ (HC2 Plus), which has a similar style of ear pads. Review

I recently managed to get a broken pre-used headset and was very impressed with the design when I took it apart for repair. These GIOTECK designers are just like me thinking out of the box with unusual and unique designs, and that is very much the way to go these days. It has these wonderful ear cups with diamond like shape that is very unusual to find, however they were very comfortable to wear because they cover the entire ear. There is a generous amount of plastic which makes the cups very robust and expensive looking. Interestingly, the headband does not extend much but was sufficient for my head. I also liked the unusual design of the in-line volume control and switch, which is very imaginative.

Changing the ear pads in these headphones is very simple because the system consists of a plastic frame that first installs into the seams of the ear pads. This frame also has claws which then simply attaches into the slots on the front panel of the cups. The only downside I can think of is that it will be difficult to find cheap generic replacement ear pads due to the unique shape.

The 40 mm diameter drivers with 30-Ω coils have good definition, and exhibit both bass and treble. If used with a personal stereo cassette player such as a Walkman, then it is not loud due to the high impedance coils. However, when used with a hi-fi amplifier, they can be loud.

Price/eBay

The HC2 is sometimes available for sale on eBay and the price can vary depending upon condition. Since there is also the new version HC2+, the price of the older version will be much less. For a brand new pair, the price of around twenty pounds seems to be fair.
