Review
I thought these were a lovely pair of headphones that sounded quite well even though they had moderate frequency response of 12 Hz to 22 kHz. The design of the drivers uses Sony’s Long Stroke driver technology that produces a wider dynamic range. The ergonomics is also much better allowing the cup to fit any angle or shape of ear without squeezing it. I noticed that the foam cups form a good seal around the ears and consequently the bass can sound much deeper. With sensitivity of 100 dB/mW, the sound definition was very good and clear. I particularly liked the open headband design as it allows your scalp to breathe, and consequently you do not get that vice-lock feeling like other models. They are also very light with a mass of only 175 g, and therefore it is possible to forget easily that one is wearing them.
Price/eBay
The MDR-XD100 is often for sale on eBay in the new and pre-used sections. They are very desirable mid-range headphones that produce a great sound. Broken ones can sell for five pounds and more and are worth it if you need replacement parts. New ones can go for around fifty pounds. You can also buy replacement cushion pads for them for a few pounds.
