Olympia Typewriter Ribbon

The old ribbon spools were marked DIN2103, however, after some research I came to realise that the compatible generic replacement was 1001FN. A large number of Olympia typewriters, as well as other brands use this ribbon.

The problem with an ink ribbon is that the print quality diminishes so slowly that most typists do not realise that the ribbon requires changing. Usually, typists compensate for this loss in quality by applying more force to the keys. Therefore, it is always a good idea to change the ribbon on a regular basis.

Although turning over the ribbon, so that the lower half is used, is the usual practice, sometimes it is not worth the bother with old ribbons, because the ink may be dry there as well.
