Intercom Lab Review
Although this is an old kit from 1979, the LM324N IC is still used today, and the circuits are valid having an educational value. Whilst the obvious applications are amplifier circuits, this kit shows some interesting circuits such as a light sensor, sound sensor, and timer. If you are an educator, you may wish to teach your students other circuits that are possible using op-amps, besides amplifiers.
This kit is an interesting concept, and consists of small yellow strips of breadboard embedded into a black plastic console. Each strip has a letter associated with it, and the idea is to insert the component leads into the holes to build a circuit.
When you open your kit, you will first have to construct the console by inserting the breadboard strips, installing the speaker, building a power switch, and installing a battery holder. The manufacturers have supplied a broadsheet style manual just for assembling the console.
The console is plastic and its manufacturing is to a reasonable standard. The project circuits are interesting and it should keep your whippersnappers busy for a few days, and out of trouble. Certainly, if you have a tree house, or an outhouse, then the intercom project will be useful for you, however, you will need to run a 3-core wire between the two buildings.
