Grundig RTV 1040
The RTV 1040 Q Hi-Fi, also known as "Quadro-Receiver" is a tuner amplifier with quadraphonic (SQ Matrix) sound reproduction. It comes with four Audiorama 4000 globe speakers, and a Garrard Zero 100 SB transcription unit. It had one of the most powerful amplifiers in its time providing 160-watts music power (4 × 40-watts) in quadraphonic mode. With four completely separate audio amplifier circuits, it is capable of Quadro Discrete playback of CD4 (with optional decoder), or Quadro Matrix, signal sources.
- Quadro Discrete Operation is for playback of 4-track quadro tape recordings or discs recorded to the CD4 system, which requires a special pick-up and CD 4 de-modulator.
- The Quadro Matrix Operation is a different type of system for reproducing quadraphonic material from SQ Matrix discs or tape. In addition, this amplifier also provides the Grundig 4D system for pseudo-quadraphonic playback.
This unit has a differential amplifier, with outputs free of electrolytic capacitors ensuring excellent linearity. The power output stage had electronic overload protection, and thermal protection.
