Sansui FR-Q5 Service Manual

The FR-Q5 was a 2-speed direct drive turntable manufactured by the Sansui Corporation. It had a fully automatic computer controlled mechanism, including a DC brushless motor with quartz-servo electronics. It has an s-shaped statically-balanced tonearm, which usually came equipped with the SC-50 induced magnet cartridge, and SN-50 diamond stylus that was 0.6-mil and spherically tipped.

These turntables are sometimes available for sale at the auction site and very desirable due to the brushless motor and fully automatic mechanism. It has an extremely complex tonearm design with a dedicated motor and solenoid, driven by equally complex electronics making it very unique. In this design the tonearm mechanism has a motor and drive belt, and in an old unit the belt may require changing, which can be costly in terms of time. A unit in mint condition with its original packaging can fetch a tidy sum on a good day.
