Pythagoras Theorem Exam Style Questions

Here are some exam style questions that might be useful. If you are a teacher, then you could always use my online calculator to make some of your own questions.

Question 1

In triangle ABC, AB = 10 m, AC = 20 m, angle BAC = 90°. Use the Pythagoras theorem to calculate the length of BC, which is side c of the triangle.

Answer:

c² = 10² + 20²

c = 22.36 m

Question 2

You are colonial warrior working for the starship Battlestar Galactica. You need to triangulate your position with the other ships at locations A, B, and C, and calculate the distance between points A and C. Triangle ABC is a right angled triangle where AB = 7 units, and BC = 8 units. Work out the length of AC which is side x of the triangle.

Answer

x² = 7² + 8²

x = 10.63 units
