Repair Microscope Optical Head
The design of this instrument is such that if you remove the plastic covers around the eyepieces as shown, you gain access to the screws that secure them. Each eyepiece lens mount has three screws and both sides had one screw missing.
You will need a precision screwdriver to tighten the screws back into place. However before you do those things, you may wish to clean the lenses as dust may have entered the eyepiece tubes. I simply used a vacuum it to remove any dust.
Do not over tighten the screws, instead, moderate torque is sufficient. To prevent the screws from loosening again avoid the use of solvent glues as they usually release a vapour that can settle on the lenses. I used some hot melt plastic from a hot-melt glue gun, which is robust enough to prevent the screws loosening, and temporary enough to remove them in the future if I ever needed to open it again.
If this article helped you, then I hope you may never again suffer from the dreaded wobbly eyepiece syndrome.
