Sony WM-701C Opening the Back Cover

Changing the WM-701C drive belt is easy, however one first needs to remove the back cover, and that is complicated. After removing the obvious looking screws, one also needs to remove the cassette lid locking mechanism. It consists of the lock lever, lock lever shaft (it has a hole with screw thread), and spring. There are also some tabs along the edge and they require releasing as well. One can spend hours trying to prise the back cover off, however the trick is in removing the lock-lever shaft first. It usually protrudes through a hole in the back cover, and whilst it is there, the back cover will not come off. One simply has to push it in (from outside) and it comes out through the other side in the battery compartment. Once this is out, the back cover will detach from the rest of the chassis very easily.
