The WM-EX562 has a double-sided printed circuit board (PCB), with surface-mount device (SMD) components. This is the only way to pack all the electronics into such a small space. The manufacturers have kindly provided test points on the PCB to diagnose faults. These are extremely useful when repairing Walkmans.

This unit has brass capstan flywheels and a disc motor for the tape transport mechanism and consequently the tape speed is uniform. They are using a ribbon cable to connect the dual audio head to the PCB, which is much neater and takes less space than bulky wires. One advantage of this unit is that you can change the drive belt without having to remove the PCB.
