Palm V Charger and Cradle
The Palm V charger, also known as an adapter, provides power to the device and charges the internal lithium battery. The charger model number is 91-5833, made by the Motorola Corporation. It is a special adapter, which provides dual voltages of 4.1 V DC at 400 mA, and 6 V DC at 100 mA. Since this PDA goes by other names such as Palm Pilot V, and Palm V 3Com, those chargers are also the same and should be compatible.
Homemade Charger
Although it is very simple to make a charger, I would recommend against this, as the battery is lithium technology and requires a precise constant current source. You can often pick up a cradle and charger for a fiver on eBay, which is much more advantageous as a cradle allows the transfer of data to a personal computer.
Charger Interface Contacts
If you were to make a homemade charger, you would need to find a way to make a connection to this interface. Many of the solutions I have seen are messy and do not work so well, therefore, it is better to look for a proper charger instead.
The Cradle
The Palm V cradle facilitates data communication through a serial COM port of a personal computer, and it charges the internal lithium battery.
