Eltax AVR-200 Protect Error and Repair

Protect Error and Repair
return

The Altax AVR-200 protection error usually displays if there is a short in the audio power output, or if the speakers are wrong impedance causing an overload. The front panel PCB has the S0791GC microcontroller IC that does all the housekeeping functions, including remember the volume settings.

The power outputs ICs have internal protection mechanisms to prevent damage, and therefore allowing the amplifier to cool and removing the load should correct the error, however it does not always appear to happen for the following reason. This amplifier has built-in memory and therefore it will remember and re-establish the previous volume level when restarted. The reason why it goes into protection mode on start-up is often due to a high volume setting. To correct this, you have to shift quickly to another input that has no signal, this action then provides enough time to turn down the volume before the protect error appears again.
