Canon FTb FD Lens Mounting Compatibility
FD lens mounting compatibility is not a problem with this camera model. It provides full aperture metering through the aperture signal lever and pin. For FD and FL lenses, no matter which aperture setting you use, your field of view through the viewfinder remains unhindered, because the aperture diaphragm actuates only for that short moment when the shutter releases, and except for that one instant, the diaphragm remains fully open. There is a manual override for this bit of automation by way of levers shown here in the photographs.
Occasionally you may want to control the aperture manually for general close-up and macro photography or if you were using an accessory between the lens and the camera body. In such a case there are two levers provided on the FD lens to disable the automatic aperture control so that you can control it yourself manually using the aperture ring.
On the FD lens 50 mm F1.8, turn the "manual lock lever" to the L position. Turn the other remaining lever called "automatic aperture lever" counter clockwise. Once this is set, you will then be able to control the aperture manually using the aperture ring on the lens barrel. To return the aperture control to automatic mode, turn the "manual lock lever" back to the original position.
