Polaroid 600 Film

In a Polaroid 600 series film, each pack of film contains 10 photos. After taking all the photographs, an empty film cartridge remains. You can see the spring-loaded aluminium plate, which would have been responsible for pushing the stack of paper up towards the rollers.

You can still buy the Polaroid 600 series film, and there are many sellers.

Photo

Here you can watch a photograph develop in front of your eyes. I had to speed it up a little to save bandwidth and keep it interesting.

Spring

The film cartridge contains the paper for ten photographs as well as a battery pack to power the camera. Here is the metal plate. Removing the plate reveals a very thin battery pack.

It is very unusual to combine the battery and the film into a single pack. Many would see it as a poor design.

Battery Contacts

The underside of the Polaroid 600 film cartridge has electrical contacts for the power pack. Using my digital meter, I was able to measure the battery voltage to be 6 V.

Modified to hold AAA batteries

I modified this empty cartridge to hold four AAA cells to power the camera for testing purposes and it worked fine.

If you have an old Polaroid 600 film cartridge where the power pack has lost its charge but the film is good to use, one option is to modify the camera by installing a jack socket so it could receive power from an external battery pack. I might show how to do this if this article gets any hits.
