We start by determining what the maximum input signal voltage (Vi MAX) is going to be. This parameter has to be between 1.2 V and 12 V, because this is the amount the reference circuit will also have to provide, and it is limited to that range. Presuming you have also calculated the value of R1 using the other calculator, then we can begin to calculate the value of R2.
