555 Signal Generator Kit

This signal generator kit, also known as, "NE555 Signal Generator Module DIY Kit", and "Multi-channel Generator", produces sine, square, triangle, and saw-tooth waveforms. It consists of a NE555P integrated circuit (IC), and a pair of S9013 transistors as the main semiconductors. It also comes with a ready-made printed circuit board measuring 5 cm × 4.5 cm, and all the necessary components.

Review

There is no accompanying manual or circuit diagram, however the silkscreen printing on the board is clear and indicates where all the components go. All the components were identifiable, and in this kit, the resistors have labelling on them indicating their values, which will probably help amateurs and hobbyists. All the components are through-hole conventional type and therefore very easy to handle and solder.

The quality of the PCB was very good as the tracks have paint insulation, and the exposed pads tinned, making them easier to solder. All the components soldered with extreme ease and it was a pleasure to build it.

Price/eBay

These kits are usually for sale on eBay for varying amounts. You could pay as much as three pounds or as little as one pound, depending upon the seller. Usually the lowest cost ones come from China as this one did. In order to save you money, it does not come in a fancy box with a 100-page instruction manual, as it is unnecessary. The build is straightforward and common sense and a hobbyist with basic knowledge should be able to build it.
