Sony 8FC-59W Radio inside Look

This is the radio side of the Sony 8FC-59W. The circuit design is advanced and consequently the reception is excellent. The Japanese became experts in radio engineering almost as quickly as they began, and this is a fully realised circuitry.

The illuminated radio dial has a string-based tuning mechanism, which moves the needle, and it is a joy to use. The volume control has a damped response, indicating detail to attention. There is a large ferrite rod with a neatly wound antenna coil for the AM radio function. The shielded Japanese manufactured mains transformer performs well today as it did when new. Overall, this is a wonderful example of good engineering worth having.
