PCB

The Roberts R881 has a very nicely designed printed circuit board (PCB). The ferrite rod on the right is nice and large, with a neatly wound coil. There is an 8-Ω loudspeaker, which is very clear and loud. The battery compartment is large because the radio requires four AA size batteries.

On this radio, the battery terminal spring on the right hand side had corroded, and I replaced it with another spring, which came out of a battery holder.

The radio employs wide ribbon cables to connect the LCD panel and front switches to the PCB. This radio uses both conventional and surface-mount device (SMD) components.
