CXA1691BM Application Circuit

The CXA1691BM is an integrated circuit (IC) manufactured by the Sony Corporation. It is a single chip AM/FM radio solution, which requires very little power to operate making it an ideal component for use in a crank radio. The operating voltage ranges from 7.5 V down to 2 V. The IC contains the mixer, oscillator, quadrature detection, and all the necessary radio frequency (RF) stages to make a radio. It also contains an audio frequency (AF) power amplifier capable of delivering 0.5 W directly into an 8 Ω loudspeaker.

As you can see, the circuit requires very few external components. Some of the main components are the multi-stage ganged variable capacitor, coils, crystal, and capacitors. Interestingly, an IC such as this is capable of detecting and resolving the weather band (WB) channel.
