Epson Expression Printer Inside Look
The Epson Expression (XP) series of printers are very similar looking from the outside because they share the same engineering construction and print head technology.
As you can see, the ink cartridge holder, which also houses the print head, fixes to the metal rails, and it is virtually impossible to remove it without taking the whole printer apart.
The ink cartridge holder secures the individual ink cartridges and establishes their electrical connections by way of copper spring terminals that mate with copper pads on the cartridge. The actual print head is a smaller module at the base of this holder. In the following pages of this multi-page article, I show how how to gain access to this module.
This is the print head cleaner mechanism which works fine for clearing dried ink on the surface of the head. However, it is not much use if the internal filters are clogged-up.
