UYIGAO UA6243L

The UA6243L is a LCR Digital Multimeter manufactured by the UYIGAO Corporation in China. It measures inductance in henry, and has the ranges 20-mH, 200-mH, 2-H, and 20-H. The 20-mH range has 0.01-mH resolution therefore making it a useful piece of measuring instrument for Radio Electronic Engineers. This is a palm-sized meter measuring 143 mm × 75 mm × 32 mm, and has a mass of approximately 200 g with the battery. It is one in a series of meters consisting of UA33B, UA33C, UA33D, UA4070L, UA136B, UA136C, and UA6013L.

Why would a radio engineer need a meter to measure inductance? Well, the process of design engineering usually starts with some formulas, and in this case, they will likely be resonance formulas that also contain inductance values. You may need to build a coil that operates within a certain frequency range and therefore this is where you will likely require the inductance value in henry. Once you have built a coil, you will need to measure its value, and for that you need a meter that measures inductance. Alternatively, an inductance meter can be useful for an audio engineer who is building loudspeaker crossovers. For this, an engineer usually calculates the crossover frequencies and then builds the coils; hence, an LCR meter such as this is invaluable.

If I had the big bucks, I would probably get a Fluke meter, however until I win the lottery, I am just going to have to look for the cheapest meters I can find, and this was one of the lowest cost meters I was able to afford. I built some crystal radio tank circuits and it worked reasonably well for me so it was worth writing about.

It has this wonderful 3-½ digit clear display that also has a bright backlight. The backlight remains ON for five seconds and then quickly fades OFF to save battery power. The characters are 16 mm in height.

To measure inductance, you need to connect the probe jacks to LC+ and LC- sockets. You also use the same connections to measure capacitance. Of course, you would need to set the range switch to the relevant measurement.
