Sanyo M2420 Drive Belt

The Sanyo M2420 tape transport mechanism has one of the best designs I have seen. They fabricated the chassis using tough rugged plastic. This, together with metal components, forms a composite construction that continues to operate even today. They are using a mechanism design that is different from the standard Phillips type that many others use. As you can see, this one has two very large plastic pulley wheels. The thick drive belt (approximately 2 mm) is the original factory-fitted one continues to work without any problems, which is remarkable for a tape recorder that is over 37 years of age.
