Technics SL-J1 Drive Belt for Platter

Motor Pulley

The drive belt installation is the most common and popular method, which involves installing it over the ridge on the underside of the platter. You then install the platter back on the spindle, and then use one of the inspection windows to pull it over the motor pulley.

This ridge is a very useful part because it gives you an indication of the size of belt that you require. It should be just big enough to fit around it and remain there when flipping the platter over. Many generic belts will fit and are much cheaper than those specific for this model.

45 rpm Adapter

The 45-rpm adapter is usually broken in a vast majority of these turntables, because knob-head "specialists" usually try to remove them when changing the platter drive belt. It is not necessary to remove it, however very few people bother reading the service manual. My one also missed the spring; however, I was able to find replacements and bring the adapter back to working condition.
