Hitachi SR-2000L Tuner Design
One of the nicest aspects of the Hitachi SR-2000L is the clean build of the tuner radio circuitry. The engineers at the Toyokawa Works would have spent as much time on the radio design as they did on the amplifier circuitry. Interestingly, they used their own ICs in its design and at the heart is the Hitachi HA11211 IC, which is an FM/AM Tuner System that provides FM IF detection, and AM IF amplification. It has some remarkable functionality such as built-in signal meter circuit and centre meter circuit for the vector-tuning feature. It also has automatic gain control (AGC), and built-in low-noise audio amplifier.
The HA1196 is the PLL FM Demodulator IC, also manufactured by the Hitachi Corporation. It has a built-in stereo decoder, and stereo lamp indicator driver. The use of ICs for the tuner design results in a low component count as well as a very clean build.
