JVC AX-V4 Audio Power Transistors
The AX-V4 (also known as AX-V4BK), uses passive cooling and therefore has a large heatsink to which the audio power transistors attach.
Here is a great example of the type of resistors and placement used in the power output section. Many of these resistors dissipate heat and therefore good engineers place them above the PCB. They are also high wattage so they can dissipate heat energy better. In poor quality amplifiers, low wattage carbon resistors are used, which often leave heat marks on the PCB, and after a few years use, they go open.
