You will need to know how to open the film compartment door when loading film in the Canon AV-1. The film rewind knob is the quintessential control in many cameras, which opens the back door. Usually, you pull this knob up to open the door. However, before you do so, make sure that there is not any film inside. You do this by checking the counter number, which indicates the number of exposed frames on the take-up spool. If the counter displays a number, then you will have to rewind the film back into its canister before opening.
