Canon AV-1 Shutter Jammed

If the Canon AV-1 shutter appears jammed, and the winder is stuck, then the first thing to check is the battery. Without sufficient charge in the battery, this camera will not operate.

This camera has a battery check function, which displays the charge in the battery when you press the "battery check button". The meter needle in the viewfinder indicates the battery charge.
