Bluetooth 3.0 EDR with MP3 Player Module -- How to pair

Bluetooth

This MP3 Player Module is supposed to have Bluetooth 3.0 EDR, which is an older version of the wireless protocol that has enhanced data rate (EDR). In 2010, there was Bluetooth 4.0 low energy (LE) version and the march for the perfect protocol has be slowly progressing forward. In this module, they etched the Bluetooth antenna on the PCB and therefore you will not need to solder any wires for it.

How to Pair Phone and Speaker

The pairing process is very simple and one starts out by setting the mode on the module to Bluetooth. During this time, your Bluetooth speaker should appear on the list of Bluetooth devices on your Smartphone. One simply taps on that device on the list to pair the two devices, and after this, when you play music or YouTube videos on your phone, you should hear the sound on the speaker.

  1. Press the MODE button until the LED display shows "bLUE", and the speaker beeps.
  2. In your Smartphone, open the Bluetooth App, and look in the list of Bluetooth devices for a device called JQ-BT, and tap on that.
  3. Upon successful pairing, the speaker should make another beep to indicate success.

Pairing is very simple with Android phones, and you just connect to the JQ-BT device. However, connection to a PC was problematic as Microsoft Windows 7 fails to find the Bluetooth Peripheral Device driver associated with the speaker. I was using the Bluetooth CSR 4.0 Dongle, which is that good value one available at auction sites. I managed to find a solution to it that is in its article.
