Antex ST6 Holding Clamp

Antex ST6 Holding Clamp

The Antex ST6 holding clamp consists of an adjustable collar and locking pin. It seems to hold the soldering iron well, but it will take getting used to because it is plastic looking and the natural instinct is to make sure the hot tip does not touch any part of the stand. With my metal spring holder stand, this was not a concern.

Antex calls the material "high grade, high temperature phenolic". If I remember my chemistry correctly, phenols were originally used in Bakelite. This plastic is used for making saucepan handles, and mains plugs. Therefore, this plastic is very hard and heat resistant.

This is the collar, which secures the soldering iron. It is adjustable to match the diameter of the soldering iron, and the plastic pin locks it to the required size.

The quality of Antex soldering irons is one of the best, and this vintage iron continues to operate even after 30 years with negligible loss in performance, which is remarkable!

Here is a view showing how the soldering iron situates in the holder. The clamp is adjustable and can accommodate a range of soldering irons.
