Antex ST6 Soldering Iron Stand
The ST6 is a soldering iron stand manufactured by the Antex Corporation, and available through the eBay outlet. Its fabrication is from a special high-grade, high temperature phenolic. It arrives in three main pieces, which the buyer will have to assemble. There is a piece that holds the soldering iron, the base, and a thick metal plate, which slots into the base to provide weight. You also get four rubber feet that stick to the base with double-sided tape. There is also a plastic dowel pin provided for securing the adjustable holding clamp. The stand also comes with some lead-free solder, which is useful.
It is an interesting concept to keep the handle of the soldering iron cool. I never leave my soldering irons switched ON throughout the day. I believe in conserving energy and getting the most out of the tip, but this is still very useful.
Bit Holders
The great thing about the ST6 is that it has bit holders to keep all the soldering iron bits in one place, which is very convenient.
ST6 Back View
The reverse side gives a good idea of how deep the angle is. The soldering iron balances well however it will take some time getting used to.
Cost / eBay
I decided to get the Antex ST6 because it was a completely different design to the spring stand, and because the seller on eBay was selling it for around £7.00, brand new. Since I had a vintage soldering iron, a modern stand might make a contrasting combination.
