Zenith Royal 3000-1 AC Adapter
Zenith approved adapters are S-64352 for 120 V mains, and S-65074 is a dual type for 230 V and 115 V mains. The original adapter S-64352 has an output rating of 12 V DC at 60 mA, hence this radio does not have a huge current consumption. These adapters are rare and difficult to find online, and I once saw some readymade ones on eBay that sold out quickly. Since, I am on a blogger budget, I had to find an alternative cheaper solution by recycling an adapter that I already had.
I managed to find an orphaned adapter that provided 12 DC at 100 mA and that worked fine for me! This is an old-fashioned one with a proper iron-core transformer so it should provide a nice clean current without any noise.
I bought a 2.5 mm mono plastic jack plug and simply soldered the wires from the adapter to it. It was according to the required specification with the tip as negative, and sleeve as positive.
This radio has a 3/32-inch (2.5 mm) switched jack socket for supplying +12 V DC. In this design, the chassis is positive, and therefore the jack plug tip will be negative.
