Philips SHP2500 Service and Repair
It is possible to repair the Philips SHP2500 up to a point and their disassembly is very simple. Replacement ear pads are readily and cheaply available, and it is very simple to fit new ones. It is also possible to replace the stereo jack if the original ones are making intermittent connections. However, replacement drivers are hard to find and would be costly to replace.
Changing the ear pads is very simple. The old ones were loose so I simply pulled them off to reveal the front plastic panel with three screws. Since these screws hide behind the pads under a stretchy material, I first marked the screw locations on the cups. A tiny dot with a felt-tipped pen usually works well.
With the front panel detached from their cups, it is possible to install the pads over them easily. However, you might be wondering that if one installs the pads over the screw holes, then how the screws will go back. Well, there is a small magic trick to that due to the stretchiness of the material that covers the holes.
Make sure that the wire retention knot is in the correct place.
Once the pads are in place, one has to realign the panel such that the screw holes align with their risers in the cups. Once the two halves are in place, it is then possible to reinstall the screws. This is where the marks for their locations come to use, as the holes will be behind the pads. The stretchy material under the pad is such that it allows one to screw through it.
