Klixon Keyboard

Klixon Keyboard

The "Klixon" keyboard was a brand and design of keyboard, which became synonymous with making a clicking sound. The keys made a unique clicking sound, and the touch and feel to them enabled users to input numbers quickly. Klixon keys became very popular and many calculator manufacturers incorporated them.

The switch mechanism was a progressive development due to the popularity of the large adding machines earlier used in industry. In digital electronics, the quality of the key contacts is a critical feature due to an issue known as key bounce. Hence, it is vital that the metal contacts are reliable and to the highest quality. Consequently, these keys used gold contacts, which provided a proper electrical contact when required.
