Sony WM-B52 Power

The Sony WM-B52 uses a pair of AA size dry cells, and the battery compartment is in the cassette compartment. The cassette compartment lid is the only one with a watertight seal; therefore, it saves manufacturing costs to situate the battery compartment there.

Here is the battery compartment. The two AA size dry cells stack on top of each other. If water gets into your Walkman, then the battery is something you should remove.

As you can see, the back part of this Walkman has a belt clip which occupies most of the space.

Sony make some of the best Walkmans, and this is an example of an innovative design from the 80s era.
