WM-BF22 Motor Drive

WM-BF22 Motor Drive

The Sony WM-BF22 uses a new design of motor, which provides an extremely smooth and precise speed that is noticeable straight away. Although the plastic-construction design makes this appear as a budget end Walkman, it is remarkable to find a motor of this high quality inside.

Sony laboratories are always researching into improving the components, and this motor design aims towards improving the speed regulation, and lowering the power consumption.

Drive Belts

Drive Belts

This Walkman has two drive belts. One belt drives the capstan flywheel, whilst the other drives the take-up spool. It also facilitates the tape forward, and rewind functions. The good thing about these belts is that they are easily replaceable and cheap, as generic belts are plentiful.

Speed Preset

Speed Preset

A small hole at the back of the case allows the adjustment of tape speed. I would highly recommend that you do NOT adjust this, as you will require a calibration tape and an oscilloscope.
