Sony STR-DE485 Heatsink

Heatsink

The Sony STR-DE485 has a wonderful passive heatsink that works very well at keeping the audio power transistors cool. As you can see, a line of transistors connects to the heatsink. When replacing the bipolar junction transistors, remember to include the mica layers and use a good quality thermal compound. Removing the damaged transistors involves desoldering them from the PCB side. The soldering iron temperature must be just enough to melt the solder, otherwise the pads can detach if too much heat is applied.
