Canon AL-1

The AL-1 Quick Focus (QF) was a 35 mm film camera with a single lens reflex (SLR) focal plane electronically controlled cloth shutter, and aperture priority automatic exposure (AE) mechanism, manufactured by the Canon Corporation of Japan in 1982. The QF system provided the user with assistance to select the best focus. The user still had to turn the focus ring manually, however, when the focus was perfect, a green LED in the viewfinder lit to provide confirmation. This film camera has the Canon FD mount and uses the high-quality Canon FD and FL series lenses. In addition, the owner can enjoy using a wide range of existing A-series accessories such as the Power Winder A or A2, Speedlite flash units 011A, 133A, 155A, 166A, 177A, 188A, and 199A.

This is a high performance camera manufactured to the same standard as the Canon AV-1, but has a battery grip. If you liked the A-line of Canon cameras such as the all time best seller Canon AE-1, then you will love this one. It has the same electronically controlled shutter, and therefore requires a pair of standard "AAA" size dry cells in the battery grip to operate. Without sufficient power, this camera will not operate and the film advance and shutter release will appear jammed. Owners often assume it requires repair when all it requires is a new set of batteries.
